December is filled with fantastic things to do in Maui. Our island is filled with aloha for visitors and locals alike. Check out a couple of our highlights for next week:

MAPA’s Nutcracker Sweets will be performed on Saturday at 2:00 and 7:00 on December 8, 2012. They will be performing at the Castle Theater in Kahalui. Enjoying the Holiday Performing Arts on Island this season is a great way to get into the holiday spirit! Get ticket pricing and more information here.

Saturday, December 8, 2012 Grab tickets for the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa’s 6:00 performance – “An Evening with Makana”. This is going to be a spectacular event. “Slack key guitar music, indigenous to Hawaii, has been around longer than the blues, and Makana is considered the greatest living player.” – Esquire Magazine Find out more information here.

If you’re looking for something more rugged this week – how about the MUD BOG & ROCK CRAWLING COMPETITION at the Paradise Speedway Maui? The down-and-dirty action begins Sunday, December 9th at 9:00am. Check out their website at http://paradisespeedwaymaui.com. This is a great way to spend the day outdoors with your family cheering on drivers of all experience levels!

Want to laugh a little this week? How about joining comedian, Gabriel Iglesias for his “Aloha Fluffy” Tour? He’s known for his clean and animated comedy performances, making it a perfect family fun night. He’ll be performing at the Castle Theater on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 7:30pm. What to do in Maui this first part of December?

Here it is… December already. The whales have shown up in Kihei and so have all our wonderful tourists. So now everyone is asking, “What to do in Maui now?”

Here’s our top picks:

If you’re reading this today, December 1st, it’s not too late to spend a fantastic evening at Gannon’s celebrating the Wolrd AIDS Day with a Remembrance Tree, Ti Leaf Circle, and performances by Merika Hunter and Jessica Rabbitt & Kanoa. Fun lasts from 5-8pm and everyone of all ages are welcome. There will be complimentary pupus and a no-host bar. Come out and join us tonight at Gannon’s and show that we are all united for this fantastic event!

Want to experience something you can’t on the Mainland? Tomorrow, head out to Uluplakaua Ranch and Maui’s Winery and check out the Ulupalakua Sparkles Event. From 11:00 – 3:30, enjoy ancient art, entertainment and good food at the Uluplakaua Ranch.

If driving Up Country isn’t for you tomorrow and you’re in the holiday mood – drive over to the MACC in Kahalui tomorrow afternoon for a holiday Pops Concert! Here’s what they’re saying about it… “Maui Pops Orchestra and guest performers will share holiday favorites in a festive atmosphere during the annual Holiday Pops concert. Guest artist violinist Ignace “Iggy” Jang, concertmaster of the newly formed Hawai‘i Symphony, will perform movements of The Four Seasons by Vivaldi. Some of Maui’s finest musicians and vocalists will present holiday songs to cheer your heart and put you in the spirit of the season: Jerry Eiting, Jimmy Mac, Alexis and Steven Dascoulias, Erin Smith, Felicity Raugust, Jamie Lawrence and Lily Meola. A portion of the ticket sales will buy gifts for clients of the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center. And our final selection for this week falls over the course of a few days, December 6th-9th – who can resist a foodie event? Head over to the Wailea Wine and Food Festival where Master sommeliers Fred Dame and Geoff Kruth will host their entourage of sommelier and winemaker pals in a high end party at various hotels. What to do in Maui November 16-30

While we’re all excited to be celebrating Thanksgiving and the beginning of yet another fantastic winter season on Maui, don’t forget to check out a couple of these special events happening this week and next:

Beginning Sunday, November 18^th, be sure to catch one of the 40 films being shown at the FirstLight Screenings at the Castle Theater in Kahului. Academy Award Worthy Films will be shown from 3:00-9:00. Contact the MACC Box Office for show tickets.

The Makahiki at the Fairmont kea Loni celebration begins tonight but don’t overlook Monday, November 19th’s activities on Polo Lawn with poi pounding, hula lessons, bracelet weaving and traditional Makahiki games! Fun starts at 11am on Monday: check here for more information.

Next Saturday, November 24^th, don’t miss out on the 11^th Annual E Ho’oulu Aloha brought to you by the Maui Historical Society. Bring your chairs and enjoy Hawaiian music and hula dancing, Hawaiian arts & crafts and food booths. Come join the fun at the Bailey House Museum in Wailuku! More information here.

What to do in Maui – November 1-15

There’s so many choices for what to do in Maui that I’m going to tell you about a couple of our favorite topics – golf and food – and you can experience both of them in the next week!

Don’t miss the Lahaina 2^nd Friday Festival! Sure to be a blast is the monthly street festival in Lahaina on November 9^th from 6pm-9pm. Taste and explore different treats from local vendors. More information here.

For those foodies out there, check out the Hui No’eau 6^th Annual Wailea Food and Wine Celebration in support of community arts and education. More information here.

The following Saturday, November 10^th, check out the Maui Aloha Golf Classic at the Wailea Blue and Waiehu Courses with an awards ceremony to be held at the Maui Tropical Plantation. More information here.

If you’re not tired after the Maui golf tournament, why not check out the Starlight Cinema to benefit the Maui United Way? That’ll be held on November 10^th at 5:30pm on Kihei Road. Here’s more information.

Halloween Vacation on Maui

So for Halloween this year you’re having your vacation on Maui… Want to know a couple cool places to check out during your stay? Have kids and want them to experience the true Halloween spirit? Maybe you’re local and are trying to find out what to do or maybe you, as an adult, just want to wear a costume or check out other folks in theirs… here’s 4 of our favorite recommendations.

For those in Lahaina, check out the Lahaina Gateway Center at 305 Keawe St. Ages 12 and under are invited to have a safe trick-or-treating around the Center and enter in the Costume Contest. More information here.

For those of you in Lahaina that aren’t too old to be celebrating Halloween but don’t fall in the “under-age” category anymore, why not check out the Royal Lahaina Resort at 2780 Kekaa Dr. The Rotary Club of Lahaina will have a DJ, dancing and a costume contest for adults! More information here.

Upcoming AWT Maui Makani Classic 2012

One of the things I love most about living in Maui is the sport competitions. Windsurfing races, surf competitions, paddling, kite boarding… it’s all here on Maui.

One of the harder things about Maui is finding out ahead of time about these events. There are so many things to do in Maui that it’s impossible to find one place with a list of all these events.

I’ve found a few sites that probably pick up about 90% collectively but it would be a full time job to monitor for everything. With that said, I’d like my readers to at least see a few of the cool things to do on Maui without the fuss.

OCTOBER 25 – NOVEMBER 3, 2012

That brings me to the upcoming AWT Makani Classic 2012. This is going to be an awesome event! Riders from all over coming together for this great Paia event! There’s categories for everyone – Pro, Amateur, Women, Youth, Masters and even Grand Masters! If you’re on island, you’ve got to check this out…
