One of the top questions we get asked is, “Why isn’t there a rehearsal for Maui weddings on the beach?”
Maui weddings are incredibly beautiful…
the bride walking the petal path as her beloved turns to get his first glance at her.
The bright blue Pacific Ocean in the background…
the soft sand between their toes.
The blow of the conch shell announcing the beginning of their lives united as one.
. . . . .
Your wedding planner, photographer or minister will be guiding you through each step of your Maui wedding on the beach. Your sole responsibility is to arrive at the beach on time – from there, you are in excellent hands. A rehearsal is designed to be a walk-through of your wedding – the staging of your wedding party. There are a couple factors that make the rehearsal obsolete for a Maui weddings on the beach.
Since public beaches have a first-come, first-serve method on the day of the ceremony, there is no real way to anticipate which part of the beach will be used for your Maui Wedding. As a Maui wedding planner, my job is to pull your ceremony permit and this tells me how many other weddings will be occupying the beach at the same time. Not all wedding planners are State licensed and insured; therefore they are unable to pull permits and are performing their ceremony illegally. (These companies can be compared to building contractors that offer to fix your home for less money than the licensed and insured contractors.) Having a rehearsal the night before would be guessing at which part of the beach might be available the next day.
Another factor that makes rehearsals obsolete for Maui weddings is the lighting. The beautiful sunlight and sunsets that make Maui weddings on the beach so superb also makes it impossible to stage the bridal party the day before the wedding. Your photographer and wedding coordinator will assist you at the beginning of the ceremony with how everyone should stand to capture the most breath-taking images. The sun changes minute to minute and there’s no way to forecast where you should stand during a rehearsal.
Wind, rain and tides also affect the placement of a Maui wedding. The tide comes up twice a day, the trade winds flare up as fast as they disappear and the rain can show up at a moment’s notice. All of these affect outdoor weddings, especially Maui weddings on the beach. There is no way to know if all of these will affect your ceremony the following day.
All these factors considered, rehearsals for Maui weddings on the beach are fairly uncommon. Just before your ceremony begins, your wedding coordinator will talk you through the basics of where to start. Once you and your partner are in place, the minister will then guide you through your ceremony.
